In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic one needs to do more than just survive. Your character as the option to fight, heal, or protect. These options will differ depending on which character class, and class tree you decide on. At character creation you will first pick a side, The Galactic Republic or The Sith Empire. Then you will need to pick your character's class. Each side has 8 classes to pick from for 16 total classes. You will find all 16 classes below.

Your character's class also effects what races are unlocked for your character. Some races are available immediately while others require to be unlocked in the legacy system or purchased from the cartel market. Lastly, every two character classes have a unique story. Beginning at level one, you will make choices throughout your class story that will make it distinctive for you. Advancing through your story will also introduce you to new companions. Below you will find a short description for each class pair story beginning.

Jedi Knight

The Jedi Knight starts their story as a Padawan who is very strong in the force. Already completing most of their training and receiving high praise from their former masters, they now travel to Tython to finish their trials and become a Jedi Knight. The two paths available to a Jedi Knight are Guardian or Sentinel. For Class Trees, Rotation and Stat Priority see the guides below.

SWTOR Guardian

Guardian

Fighting with one lightsaber the Jedi Guardian has the option of fulfilling the role of Tank or Damage. With the force as an ally they can protect others while a crusader for justice.


SWTOR Sentinel

Sentinel

After much devoted training the Jedi Sentinel has master fighting with not one but two lightsabers. They can fulfill the roll of damage and deal much of it in a short amount of time.


Sith Warrior

As a dominant force in early training, the Sith Warrior has caught the eye of a Korriban Instructor who is hopping to keep old traditions alive. The new apprentice must quickly prove their worth against candidates of lesser blood and become Sith. For Companions, Starting Planet, and Story information see the guide below.

Juggernaut

As an immovable object or the unstoppable force, the Sith Juggernaut can play the role of tank or damage. While fighting with one lightsaber there is nothing to stop them.


SWTOR Marauder

Marauder

While fighting with two lightsabers Sith Marauders can only fill the role of damage, bursting down enemies quickly. However, the star that burns twice as bright burns half as long.


Jedi Consular

Already having a strong connection with the force, the Jedi Consular starts with a reputation of surpassing all expectation for a new Padawan. They now travel to Tython to meet their new Master and finish their trails with hopes of becoming a Jedi. For Companions, Starting Planet, and Story information see the guide below.

SWTOR Jedi Sage

Sage

Preferring to fight at a distance, the Jedi Sage can mend or destroy. With the option of fulfilling the role of Healer or Damage, they rely on the force much more than their single lightsaber.

SWTOR Jedi Shadow

Shadow

Using the force to cloak their presence from thought and mind, the Jedi Shadow can fulfill the role of Tank or Damage. They use their double bladed light saber to defeat and defend.

Sith Inquisitor

The Sith Inquisitor begins their journey as a slave, sent to Korriban after discovering they are force sensitive. They now must go up against other former slaves and acolytes who have been training their whole life. They will either become Sith or die. SWTOR Sith Sorcerer

Sorcerer

As Healer or Damager, the Sith Sorcerer uses dark mending to restore allies and force lightning to punish their foes. While they rely on the force and their emotions they still carry a single lightsaber.

SWTOR Sith Assassin

Assassin

Fulfilling the role of Tank or Damage, the Sith Assassin uses their double bladed light saber and the power of the dark side to slay their enemies and protect anyone that they deem worthy.

Trooper

Protecting the Republic and holding the line at all costs, the Trooper knows the meaning of honor and duty. Just being transferred to a special forces unit know as Havoc Squad, they begin their journey surrounded by all new faces. SWTOR Vanguard

Vanguard

Republic Troopers that train to be a Vanguard have the option to fulfill the rolls of Tank or Damage. With a blaster rifle and advanced body armor they seek out every tactical advantage to complete the mission.

SWTOR Commando

Commando

Armed with a blaster cannon, Commandos can act as a Healer or Damager. Combat Medics earn much praise for keeping their teams alive while Gunnery Commandos are known for their fireworks.

Bounty Hunter

There is no edge of the galaxy a Bounty Hunter will not go for fortune and glory. Meeting their new team for the first time on Hutta, your Bounty Hunter has a plan to join the Great Hunt and out play the other mercenaries in a race to capture or eliminate selected targets. Riches follow anyone who can out hunt the best of the best. A Bounty Hunter can choose to train as a Mercenary or a Power Tech.

SWTOR Sith Sorcerer

Mercenary

With two blaster pistols at their side few can out shoot a Mercenary. Further advancing their training as a Healer or Damager they are a welcome addition to any team, so long as they don’t charge to much.

SWTOR Power Tech

Power Tech

Armed with a blaster cannon, Commandos can act as a Healer or Damager. Combat Medics earn much praise for keeping their teams alive while Gunnery Commandos are known for their fireworks.
